Taunya Cola

The FCPA is proud to honor Taunya Cola as the 2009 Crime Prevention Volunteer of the year. In 2008 the unthinkable happened, a homicide involving a relative of Ms. Cola. Then a few weeks later another homicide took place near her residence. She had enough!

Ms. Cola started the “Stop the Violence” program where residents, business leaders and law enforcement work together spreading the word that the citizens have had enough and are taking back their neighborhoods. Red wristbands were produced and distributed with the message “Stop the Violence”. Taunya worked tirelessly reminding everyone the roll that they play in preventing crime.

Ms Cola then volunteered at the Fort Myers PD assisting the crime prevention unit in distributing flyers seeking donations and doing anything asked of her.

For the past 3 years she has hosted “Welcome to Summer” an event to celebrate the end of the school year by inviting children to her residence, she receives donations of food for participants and invites McGruff to participate.

During a recent National Night Out program Ms. Cola sponsored a march through her neighborhood, distributing wristbands with the Stop the Violence message.
