David Miller
Officer David Miller of the Port Orange Police Department is this year’s recipient of the Crime Prevention Practitioner of the Year. David has worked for the Port Orange Police Department for 8 years after 28 years with the Nashville Police Department. During 2008 Dave was certified as a SAFE instructor and has taught over 500 women self defense techniques.
During the year he managed the
Wanderer’s Assist program helping to identify and return seniors who
have wandered from home. He conducted the city’s annual Night out
block party with over 2000 attendees and 100 vendors
During his spare time he has attended 217 Home
Owners Association meetings and provided crime prevention
information at 39 special events in the city.
During these special events he has distributed 377 bicycle helmets, fingerprinted over 1500 children, conducted a crime prevention art contest with over 1500 children participating and managed the McGruff Truck program with the 3 major utilities in the area.
Dave is also administering the Citizen Observer program where over 1600 citizens are sent alerts reference to crimes, emergencies, scams, missing persons, as well as other important information. He has sent out over 200 of these alerts over the past year.
Dave is also the President of the Volusia County Crime Prevention Association
